This bill amends Chapter 22C of the General Laws by allowing the colonel to appoint retired uniformed state police members as special state police officers. These retired officers can perform police details and other police duties, provided they meet certain requirements such as having an honorable discharge status, being certified by the police officer standards and training commission, and being under the age of 68. The appointed retired officers will be at-will employees, subject to appointment and removal by the colonel, and will not be subject to the civil service law or rules, but will be deemed members of the state police department for the purposes of certain liability protections.
