AI Summary
This bill modifies existing Oklahoma law to direct the Commissioner of Public Safety to commission peace officers in conjunction with either the President Pro Tempore of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives, allowing for up to two members from each legislative body's security team to be commissioned as peace officers, provided they meet full-time peace officer certification requirements and their jurisdiction is limited to official duties. Additionally, the bill significantly restructures the oversight and management of the State Capitol Building and grounds by disestablishing certain committees, redefining the roles and membership of the State Capitol Preservation Commission, and assigning comprehensive maintenance, restoration, and operational responsibilities to the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES), while also clarifying the duties of the Capitol Architect and Curator and the Oklahoma Arts Council regarding art collections and historical preservation. The bill also includes provisions for the financing of Capitol repairs and renovations, and sets an effective date of November 1, 2026.
