This bill requires that large group health insurance plans in New York, which already cover physician services or comprehensive medical care, must also cover acupuncture treatment when prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider acting within their professional scope. This coverage applies to acupuncture as defined in section eighty-two hundred eleven of the education law, and while mandatory, these services can still be subject to standard insurance terms like deductibles, co-payments, co-insurance, fee limits, and utilization reviews. The bill amends sections of the insurance law to ensure this coverage is provided for policies and contracts issued, renewed, or modified after the law takes effect, which is 90 days after it becomes law.
