AI Summary

This bill creates a specific fishing exception for the Crooked Brook Dam in Danforth, Washington County. Currently, there are several dams in Maine where fishing is prohibited in or from the fishway, and this bill adds the Crooked Brook Dam to the existing list of such locations. The bill acknowledges that residents of Danforth have traditionally enjoyed fishing in the area around the dam, but their ability to do so has been limited since the completion of a fishway. Specifically, the legislation allows fishing near the fishway, but explicitly prohibits fishing in or from the fishway itself. The bill is classified as an emergency measure, which means it will take effect immediately upon approval, rather than waiting the standard 90 days after legislative adjournment. This urgency is justified by the desire to enable local residents to fish during the spring and summer months, and the legislation is presented as necessary for preserving public peace, health, and safety.
