These site maps must be compatible with law enforcement and school security software platforms, provided in a printable format oriented to true north, and overlaid with gridded coordinates. The bill also ensures that these site maps are verified through annual walkthroughs and includes provisions for additional building aid to help school districts cover the costs of creating and maintaining these emergency response site maps. The site mapping is intended to be confidential and only accessible to authorized department or school staff and law enforcement officers, with the primary goal of improving emergency response capabilities in school settings. The act will take effect six months after becoming law, giving school districts time to prepare and implement the new mapping requirements.
