This bill creates a new category of distinctive license plates for members, veterans, and supporters of the United States Army's 10th Mountain Division in New York State. The bill allows active members, veterans, and supporters of the division to request special license plates featuring the 10th Mountain Division insignia and specific identifying text. To obtain these plates, applicants must submit an application to the commissioner of motor vehicles, with active members and veterans requiring verification of their status. The plates will be issued for a regular registration fee plus an additional $20 annual service charge. Notably, if more than $2,500 is collected from these service charges, the excess will be paid to the Northern New York Community Foundation for their scholarship program. The bill also includes a provision requiring a $6,000 surety bond for plate production, which can be waived if at least 200 pre-orders are received.
