This bill requires health care settings to develop and implement a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan that addresses multiple aspects of safety, including physical security systems, staffing patterns, job design, emergency procedures, reporting mechanisms, and employee training. Each health care setting must now conduct timely investigations of every workplace violence incident, reviewing details such as the nature of the conduct, response strategies, and staffing levels at the time of the incident. Health care settings must submit quarterly (or bi-annual for critical access hospitals) reports to their safety committee that include de-identified incident data, an analysis of systemic causes of workplace violence, and recommendations for modifying prevention plans. The bill also specifies that health care settings with established safety committees should develop and monitor these prevention plans, with the committee composition requiring equal or greater representation of employee-elected members compared to employer-selected members. The workplace violence prevention plan must be comprehensively reviewed and updated at least once per calendar year, taking into consideration guidelines from various health and safety departments and organizations. This legislation aims to create a more proactive and structured approach to preventing and addressing workplace violence in health care settings.
