This bill amends the Oklahoma Interventional Pain Management and Treatment Act to expand the scope of practice for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in pain management services. The bill updates definitions, including clarifying "fluoroscopy" as a medical imaging procedure using X-rays to view internal body parts in real-time. It now allows CRNAs to practice interventional pain management if they hold a valid certification in Nonsurgical Pain Management, with specific conditions: they may practice interventional pain management techniques (except surgical techniques) in collaboration with a licensed physician, operate a freestanding pain management facility under physician collaboration, and perform procedural sedation. However, the bill explicitly prohibits CRNAs from prescribing or dispensing opioids or other controlled substances for chronic pain management to be taken offsite by patients. The changes aim to provide more flexibility for CRNAs in delivering pain management services while maintaining physician oversight and patient safety. The bill is set to become effective on November 1, 2025.
