AI Summary

This bill establishes a comprehensive statewide stroke plan in Indiana, focusing on improving stroke care and patient outcomes. The legislation requires the Indiana Department of Health to create and maintain a detailed stroke data system that will compile information on stroke care using nationally recognized metrics from organizations like the American Heart Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Hospitals certified as comprehensive, primary, or thrombectomy-capable stroke centers will be required to report specific data about stroke cases and treatments, including details about mechanical endovascular thrombectomy procedures. The state department must develop a database to store this information, establish reporting procedures, and use the collected data to identify potential interventions and recommendations for improving stroke care across different regions of Indiana. The bill also mandates that the state department create evidence-based treatment guidelines for healthcare providers managing post-stroke patient care and requires an annual report to the governor and legislative services agency detailing stroke data and improvement recommendations. Additionally, the bill updates existing regulations about stroke center certifications, including adding thrombectomy-capable stroke centers to official lists and prohibiting healthcare facilities from advertising stroke center status without proper certification. The legislation aims to enhance the efficiency and quality of stroke patient care while ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained.
