This Joint Memorial respectfully requests that the Washington State Transportation Commission officially extend the designation of "Martin Luther King, Jr. Way" to include additional sections of state highways. Specifically, it asks to extend this memorial naming along State Route 900 from the western edge of Renton to near milepost 10, and also along the entirety of State Route 515, from its connection with Interstate 405 to its connection with State Route 516. The memorial highlights Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s crucial role in the Civil Rights Movement, his advocacy for justice and equality, and his lasting impact on American society, stating that extending the naming of this roadway is a fitting way to honor his life and contributions and to symbolize community unity. Copies of this memorial will be sent to the Washington State Transportation Commission, the Secretary of the Washington State Department of Transportation, and the Department itself.
