The bill allows drivers to take the mandated safe driving course at any time after receiving notice of a pending suspension, with the department terminating the suspension once the course is completed. However, this early termination option is limited to once every five years. During the subsequent one-year probation period, the driver must not commit any additional moving violations, or they will face an additional 30-day suspension. The bill also eliminates the reissue fee at the end of the suspension period and clarifies that multiple infractions issued during a single traffic stop count as one occasion. The changes are designed to provide drivers with an opportunity to improve their driving skills and maintain their driving privileges, rather than automatically suspending their license for traffic infractions.
