AI Summary

This bill allows individuals who have retired from the Employees' Retirement System (ERS) to be reemployed without losing or interrupting their retirement benefits, provided they meet certain conditions. Specifically, retired law enforcement officers can work as school resource officers or investigators at public schools if their positions are identified as labor shortage or difficult-to-fill by the Department of the Attorney General, Department of Law Enforcement, or other law enforcement agencies. Similarly, retired investigators in these same departments can also be rehired under these conditions. For these rehires, the employer must contribute to the pension fund to help cover the system's unfunded liabilities, and the retirant must not have been employed by the state or county within the twelve months prior to reemployment, nor have had a prior agreement to return to work after retirement. Additionally, the bill requires the Director of Human Resources or county human resources chief executive to report annually to the Legislature on the employment of these reemployed retirants in these specific roles. This bill is set to take effect on January 1, 2077.
