This bill establishes a Wildfire Mitigation Working Group, which will be administered by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and include members from various government agencies, experts in fields like economics and land management, industry leaders, landowners, and the public, to address the growing threat of wildfires. The working group is tasked with developing a comprehensive plan that includes state tax incentives and funding for fire risk management, strategies for retrofitting unsafe subdivisions with adequate evacuation routes, plans for workforce development in land management and wildfire mitigation, improving ignition-resistant building strategies, integrating food security and climate resilience with wildfire efforts, identifying funding for grants to support fuel management on private lands, and incorporating cultural stewardship and certified resilience standards. The working group must submit a report of its findings and any proposed legislation to the Legislature by a specific date, and funds are appropriated for its administrative expenses, with the entire act taking effect on July 1, 2050.
