Second, the bill requires political subdivisions located within five miles of a publicly owned airport runway to adopt an airspace overlay zoning ordinance by July 1, 2027. These ordinances must ensure compatible land use near airports and address airspace protection according to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. The bill becomes effective immediately and mandates that airport administrations provide draft zoning ordinances to local subdivisions by July 1, 2027.
