This bill establishes the Task Force on High School Diploma Modernization, a 24-member committee appointed by the Governor that will comprehensively review and propose updates to high school diploma requirements in Oregon. The task force must include representatives from diverse stakeholder groups such as students, parents, teachers, school administrators, higher education, workforce development, businesses, and community organizations. The primary goal is to develop diploma requirements that prepare students for multiple post-graduation pathways. The task force will consider previous research, including recommendations from a 2021 report, and is required to submit a preliminary report by March 1, 2026, and a final report by September 15, 2026, to an interim legislative education committee and the Governor. The Department of Education will provide staff support, and task force members will be compensated according to state guidelines. Members will be entitled to collaborate with state agencies and access necessary information to complete their work. The task force and its provisions will automatically expire on December 31, 2026, and the bill will take effect 91 days after the 2025 legislative session adjourns.
