This bill modifies Oklahoma law regarding county sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, and reserve deputy sheriffs by expanding their ability to perform duties outside their home county and clarifying employer liability. Specifically, the bill removes language specific to the National Sheriffs' Association annual conference in June 2024 and instead creates a more general provision allowing law enforcement officers to perform duties in counties other than their primary employment county. Under the new language, when such officers are assigned duties outside their home county, they will retain the same powers and duties as if they were working in their original jurisdiction. The liability for their conduct remains with their home county, and their home county will continue to be responsible for providing salaries, insurance, and other benefits. The bill also eliminates a previous provision that set a termination date for these assigned duties. The legislation will become effective on November 1, 2025, providing a standardized framework for inter-county law enforcement assistance and collaboration.
