This bill requires the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety to establish and maintain a pursuit alert system designed to notify drivers about active police pursuits in their immediate area. The system would use multiple communication channels, including mobile phone text messages and push notifications, as well as electronic highway message boards, to provide real-time updates about ongoing pursuits. Alerts would only be issued when a law enforcement agency confirms that a pursuit poses a significant public risk and when notification might help reduce potential harm. The system must provide specific details about the pursuit, such as the vehicle's make, model, color, last known location, and direction of travel, while minimizing driver distraction. Alerts would be geographically limited to a specific radius determined by the Department of Public Safety and would be automatically deactivated once the pursuit ends or no longer threatens public safety. The Department is authorized to create rules to implement this system, and the bill is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
