This bill enacts the "Electric Super Highway Act," which requires alternative fuel availability along the New York State Thruway. The bill defines "alternative fuel" broadly to include ethanol, bio-diesel, electricity (including solar-generated electricity), green hydrogen, and other non-petroleum-based fuels that align with public safety, health, and emission reduction goals. Specifically, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority must provide the Thruway Authority with a list of at least three feasible alternative fuels. Starting November 1, 2025, each gas station facility along the Thruway must include alternative fuel options, with these alternative fuels to be made available at intervals of no more than 120 miles on each side of the thruway. The intent is to promote more environmentally friendly transportation options and support New York's climate justice and emission reduction mandates by creating infrastructure that makes alternative fuels more accessible to travelers.
