This bill establishes a procedure for temporarily replacing a member of the Oklahoma Legislature who is called to active military service for more than 30 days. The legislator being deployed can select a replacement who must be from the same political party and meet constitutional qualifications, subject to approval by a majority vote of their legislative chamber. The temporary acting member will have full powers, privileges, and duties of the office and receive the same compensation, while the deployed legislator will not receive compensation during their active military service. The temporary replacement can serve either for the duration of the member's active military service or until the end of the original member's term, whichever is shorter. The bill defines "Armed Forces of the United States" broadly to include all military branches, their reserve and auxiliary components, and the National Guard. The bill will become effective on November 1, 2025, and is designed to ensure continuous representation in the state legislature when a member is serving in the military, while protecting the original member's position and providing a clear, fair process for temporary replacement.
