This bill modifies the composition and appointment process for the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in Oklahoma. Currently, the board consists of five members: three licensed speech-language pathologists or audiologists (with at least one speech-language pathologist and one audiologist), one otolaryngologist certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, and one lay member. The key change removes the previous requirement that successors for speech-language pathologist or audiologist positions must be selected from a list of five candidates provided by the Oklahoma Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Instead, the bill allows the Governor more flexibility in selecting appointees by permitting consideration of recommendations from various sources, including statewide professional organizations, national organization state chapters, or other groups and individuals in the state. The board members continue to be appointed by the Governor with Senate consent, serve staggered three-year terms, and can be reappointed once after a three-year break. The bill will take effect on November 1, 2025, and the board is re-created until July 1, 2027, in accordance with the Oklahoma Sunset Law.
