This bill proposes a new requirement for municipal police officers that mandates specific firearm training standards. Specifically, the legislation prohibits police officers from carrying or using a firearm while on duty unless they have successfully completed a training course that meets or exceeds minimum standards established by the municipal police training council. The new law is set to take effect on the first day of January following its enactment, providing municipalities time to implement the new training requirements.
