This bill amends existing Oklahoma law to require judges who preside over domestic violence cases to receive eight hours of annual continuing education on a range of domestic violence-related topics. The training, to be provided by the Administrative Office of the Courts, will cover critical areas such as the dynamics of domestic violence, its impact on victims and children, identifying dominant aggressors, understanding batterer behaviors, victim protection orders, victims' rights, and evidence-based practices for addressing behavioral health and substance abuse issues. The curriculum is designed to ensure that judges handling domestic violence cases have comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge about the complex issues surrounding domestic violence. The bill will become effective on November 1, 2025, giving courts and judicial training programs time to prepare and implement the new educational requirements.
