AI Summary

This bill makes several significant changes to regulations surrounding physician assistants (PAs) in Oklahoma, focusing on their prescribing authority, supervision requirements, and professional practice. The bill increases the Physician Assistant Committee membership from seven to nine members, with five members now being physician assistants. It establishes a new provision that allows physician assistants with 6,240 or more hours of postgraduate clinical practice experience to practice without direct physician supervision, provided they report these hours to the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. The bill clarifies prescribing rights for physician assistants, allowing them to prescribe controlled substances in Schedules III through V, with some restrictions based on whether they are practicing under a formal practice agreement. Additionally, the bill requires physician assistants not practicing under a practice agreement to carry malpractice insurance of at least $1 million per occurrence. The legislation also updates various definitions in pharmacy and controlled substances laws, streamlining language and expanding the roles and responsibilities of physician assistants in the state's healthcare system. These changes aim to provide more flexibility for experienced physician assistants while maintaining appropriate oversight and patient safety standards.
