This bill amends Section 184-3.4 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes to expand the allowable uses of the State Parks Special Fund. Currently, the fund can be used for staff positions, park program planning, facility construction and repairs, park operations and maintenance, and administrative costs. The bill adds a new provision allowing the Department of Land and Natural Resources to use the fund for any departmental program aimed at environmental protection. By inserting this new purpose (which becomes the fifth item in the list of allowable expenditures), the bill gives the department more flexibility in using the State Parks Special Fund to support environmental initiatives. The change is relatively straightforward, simply adding a new category of potential spending to the existing list of authorized uses for the fund. The bill will take effect immediately upon approval.
