This bill changes the due date for the Hawaii Department of Education's annual computer science legislative report from June 30 to October 31, starting in 2025. The legislative findings indicate that the department wants to include quarter four computer science data in its report, which the previous June 30 deadline did not allow. The report must continue to include detailed information about computer science courses and content, such as course names, student enrollment disaggregated by various demographic categories (including gender, race, special education status, and grade level), course descriptions, and information about computer science instructors. When reporting demographic data, if a category contains one to five students, that number will be replaced with a symbol to protect individual student privacy. The bill will take effect immediately upon approval, with the first updated report due on October 31, 2025, and subsequent reports due by October 31 each year thereafter.
