This bill amends Hawaii's existing law regarding the Hawaii Public Housing Authority's ability to close areas to the public by expanding the definition of closable spaces. Specifically, the bill allows the authority to close not just housing project areas, but also any parcels owned by the authority, in addition to authority offices and facilities during non-business hours. To close an area, the authority must post clear "Closed to the Public - No Trespassing" signs with letters at least two inches high, placed at reasonable intervals (no less than three signs per mile) along boundary lines and at all property entrances. The signs for offices must also include hours of operation. The bill maintains the existing definition of "housing project" as including public housing projects, elder housing, and state low-income housing projects. These changes aim to provide the Hawaii Public Housing Authority with greater control over access to its properties and facilities, enhancing security and management of its real estate assets.
