Effective 7/1/3000. (HD1)
AI Summary
This bill amends Hawaii's legal code by adding a new section that limits civil liability for individuals who provide firefighting services with a firefighting vessel in commercial harbors or state-controlled waterfront areas. Specifically, the bill protects individuals who respond to a firefighting command by a known firefighter from being sued for damages, except in cases of gross negligence or wanton acts. Under this legislation, a person who assists with firefighting in these maritime environments would only be legally responsible if their actions demonstrate a severe disregard for safety or intentional misconduct. The purpose appears to be encouraging good Samaritans and additional responders to assist in maritime firefighting situations without fear of extensive legal repercussions, while still maintaining a standard that prevents reckless behavior. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 3000 (which is likely a typographical error and meant to be a future date).
