This bill authorizes the director of finance to issue $46,524,000 in general obligation bonds for capital improvement projects specifically for schools in Hawaii's thirty-sixth representative district during fiscal year 2025-2026. The projects are exclusively focused on two schools: August Ahrens elementary school and Waipahu schools (elementary and intermediate). For August Ahrens elementary school, the bill provides funding for multiple construction and equipment projects, including a new covered walkway, administrative office layout, play area improvements, cafeteria renovations, a new playcourt, phase 2 of a new building, library outdoor learning equipment, a small parking lot, and improvements to Tucker Field's running track. For Waipahu schools, the bill funds projects such as parking lot construction, cafeteria bathroom reconfiguration, heat abatement, covered courts with lighting, water main repairs, and classroom air conditioning. The appropriated funds will not lapse at the end of the fiscal year but will expire on June 30, 2028, if unencumbered, and the bill will take effect on July 1, 2025. All projects will be executed by the department of education.
