This bill establishes an Electric Vehicle Fires Working Group within the State Fire Marshal's office to investigate the potential risks and impacts of electric vehicle fires in confined parking structures. The working group will include representatives from various state and county agencies, such as the Insurance Commissioner, Comptroller, Public Utilities Commission, and county facility and building permitting agencies. The group will also invite representatives from commercial parking structures and the condominium industry. Their primary task is to examine the potential rise in insurance costs associated with electric vehicles and their charging stations in confined spaces. By June 2027, the working group must submit a comprehensive report to the legislature with recommendations for updating fire, building, and electrical codes to improve fire resilience and containment, propose additional training for county fire departments, and suggest potential legislative actions. The working group will be dissolved on June 30, 2027, after completing its research and submitting its findings. The bill takes effect immediately upon approval.
