This bill establishes a Fentanyl Abuse and Overdose Prevention Task Force comprised of 16 members with demonstrated expertise in related issues, including appointees from various state leadership positions, government agencies, and professional associations. The task force, chaired by a gubernatorial appointee, will conduct a comprehensive study on fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention, meeting at least quarterly and with the ability to consult various organizations and entities during its research. Members will not receive compensation but will be reimbursed for expenses, and all appointments must be made within 60 days of the act's effective date. Within one year of establishment, the task force is required to submit a detailed report containing its findings and recommendations to key state leadership, including the governor and legislative leaders. The task force and its provisions will automatically expire two years after the law takes effect, ensuring a time-limited approach to addressing the critical issue of fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention in New York State.
