This bill establishes the Fentanyl Abuse and Overdose Prevention Task Force, a 16-member committee designed to conduct a comprehensive study on fentanyl abuse and prevention. The task force will include representatives from various state agencies and organizations, such as the governor's office, state senate and assembly leadership, health commissioners, mental health officials, addiction services, district attorneys, state police, county associations, and medical societies. Appointed members will serve without compensation but will be reimbursed for expenses, and the task force will be chaired by a gubernatorial appointee with meetings held at least quarterly. Within 60 days of the act's effective date, all members must be appointed, and within one year, the task force is required to submit a detailed report with findings and recommendations to key state leadership, including the governor and legislative leaders. The task force may consult with various organizations and entities during its research, and the entire act will automatically expire two years after becoming law, ensuring a time-limited approach to addressing the critical issue of fentanyl abuse and overdose prevention.
