This bill requires the state director, in collaboration with the state board of pharmacy and the department of health, to create and publish a comprehensive drug guide specifically designed for seniors over 62 years old. The guide will explain the purpose, function, and potential drug interactions of medications commonly used by this age group, and will also include information about the effects of combining these medications with alcohol. The guide must include a prominent caution in 14-point type warning readers not to change their medication regimen without consulting a healthcare professional. The director must make the guide available for free through designated agencies and online, and must provide translations in the six most common non-English languages spoken in New York State. The guide will be subject to updates to ensure its accuracy and relevance, and while the first ten copies will be free, requests for more than ten copies may incur a reasonable reproduction and handling fee. The bill will take effect on the first of September following its enactment.
