This bill amends education law to prohibit vendors from selling foods and beverages containing specific synthetic color additives, namely FD&C Red No. 3, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Blue No. 2, FD&C Green No. 3, FD&C Yellow No. 5, and FD&C Yellow No. 6, to public schools in the state. This prohibition applies to all foods and beverages, including "competitive foods" (which are typically sold outside of the regular school meal program) and meals reimbursed under federal school lunch programs like the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act and the Child Nutrition Act of 1966. However, schools are permitted to sell these items if the sale occurs either off school grounds or on school grounds at least thirty minutes after the school day has concluded. This act is set to take effect 180 days after becoming law.
