AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to prohibiting the sale of foods containing synthetic additives in schools

This bill amends education law to prohibit the sale of foods and beverages containing specific synthetic color additives, namely FD&C Red No. 3, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Blue No. 2, FD&C Green No. 3, FD&C Yellow No. 5, and FD&C Yellow No. 6, in public schools. This prohibition applies to all foods and beverages, including "competitive foods" (which are defined as food and beverage items sold to students outside of the federal school meal programs) and meals reimbursed under federal programs like the Richard B. However, schools are permitted to sell these items if the sale occurs either off school grounds or on school grounds at least thirty minutes after the end of the school day. This act will take effect 180 days after becoming law.
