This bill modifies the existing law regarding the administration of the International Fire Code (IFC) in Washington state, specifically expanding the authority of fire protection districts and regional fire protection service authorities with significant annual revenues. Under the new provisions, such districts or authorities with over $10 million in annual revenues can, after providing six months' notice to the county government, assume responsibility for administering and enforcing the International Fire Code in unincorporated county areas. This includes conducting fire cause and origin investigations, planning reviews, and building inspections. The bill also authorizes these fire districts to impose fees to cover the costs of their administrative and enforcement activities. Additionally, if a fire protection district or regional fire protection service authority takes over these responsibilities, they must offer equivalent positions to workers who would be displaced from the county fire marshal's office. The legislation maintains the original intent of not granting counties additional fire suppression powers and ensures continued cooperation between different local government entities in fire prevention and safety.
