This bill amends existing law to allow larger fire protection districts and regional fire protection service authorities, defined as those with over $10,000,000 in annual revenues for the preceding three years, or those formed by jurisdictions that cumulatively met this revenue threshold, to opt into administering and enforcing the International Fire Code in unincorporated areas within their jurisdiction, provided they give six months' advance notice to the county government. This assumption of responsibility includes tasks such as investigating fire causes and origins, reviewing plans, and conducting building inspections, and these entities are authorized to impose fees to cover their costs. Furthermore, if a fire protection district or regional fire protection service authority takes over these duties, they must offer equivalent positions to any county fire marshal's office workers displaced by this change.
