This bill establishes a pilot program administered by the Tennessee Department of Health to provide feminine hygiene products, such as tampons and sanitary napkins, to students at no cost. The program will place hygiene vending machines in women's restrooms or locker rooms in eligible public schools that teach grades five through twelve, have a Title I schoolwide designation, and are operated by a Local Education Agency (LEA), the state, or a charter agreement. The department will select at least two eligible schools from each of Tennessee's grand divisions, prioritizing those with the highest percentage of economically disadvantaged students, and will supply the vending machines and products. The department is also encouraged to collaborate with various organizations and government offices to secure resources and funding for the program, which will begin with the 2025-2026 school year.
