This bill allows members of the New York City Fire Riders Motorcycle Club to obtain distinctive license plates featuring the words "NYC Fire Riders" upon request. To qualify, an individual must be a resident of New York State, an active or retired uniformed member of the New York City Fire Department, and hold an active membership in the Fire Riders Motorcycle Club. The distinctive plates will be issued in the same manner as regular number plates, with applicants paying the standard registration fee plus an additional annual service charge of twenty-five dollars. Before the plates can be designed and produced, the Department of Motor Vehicles must either receive a surety bond of six thousand dollars or obtain at least 200 pre-orders for the plates. If fewer than 200 sets of plates are sold within two years of becoming available, the department can recover a proportionate amount from the bond.
