This bill requires the Tennessee Department of Education to offer at least one free, self-paced (asynchronous) professional development course for teachers in grades 6-12 on how to use artificial intelligence (AI) in their classrooms, with the course content to be developed by experts in STEM fields. Furthermore, all teachers in grades 6-12 must complete at least one department-approved AI professional development course by August 1, 2028, or within two years of getting their teaching license, whichever comes later, and local school districts and public charter schools will be responsible for approving professional development credits for teachers who complete this training.
