This bill creates a new venue beer, wine, and liquor license specifically for Dorchester County, which allows certain businesses to sell and serve alcoholic beverages during events. To qualify for the license, a business must be a nonprofit or for-profit retail venue that is at least 2,000 square feet, can accommodate at least 100 people, and has adequate bathroom facilities. The license permits the sale of beer, wine, and liquor for on-premises consumption only during events where food is also served, and alcohol cannot be brought onto or off the licensed premises. The annual license fee is $1,500, and sales are restricted to the hours allowed for a Class B beer, wine, and liquor license. The bill also includes a provision that normally prevents new alcohol licenses for establishments within 300 feet of a place of worship or school, but creates an exception for this venue license if the nearby worship place or school provides written consent. The new license will take effect on July 1, 2025, and will be administered by the Dorchester County Board of License Commissioners.
