This bill extends the existing law that allows for compensation of unused leave for teachers to all employees of Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and public charter schools in Tennessee, meaning that the estates of these employees who die on or after September 1, 2024, can be paid for their unused annual and sick leave in the same way that estates of deceased state employees are compensated. Additionally, employees will have the option to designate a beneficiary to receive payment for their accrued annual and sick leave upon their death, with the default beneficiary being the same as the one designated for retirement benefits with the Tennessee consolidated retirement system.
