This bill modifies the election law to improve absentee voting access for residents of nursing homes and senior citizen residences. Specifically, it requires the board of elections to provide boards of inspectors with additional absentee ballots, envelopes, and ballot applications for the facilities they are assigned to attend. The bill mandates that these boards of inspectors proactively deliver absentee ballot applications to facility residents who do not already have an absentee ballot and who request one. Furthermore, the inspectors must assist residents in completing these applications and promptly deliver the appropriate absentee ballot and envelope to registered voters. In cases where a resident is registered to vote from a different election district than the facility's location, the board of inspectors must obtain the correct ballot from the board of elections and deliver it to the voter. This legislation aims to make voting more accessible for seniors by providing direct, on-site assistance with the absentee voting process. The bill will take effect 30 days after becoming law.
