This bill allows uniformed law enforcement officers in Tennessee to wear military decorations, medals, service medals, and badges awarded to them by the armed forces of the United States, the Tennessee national guard, or the state guard during an extended period around Veterans Day and Memorial Day. Specifically, officers can wear these military honors during the week before each holiday, on the actual holiday, and the day after the holiday. The bill includes an important caveat that employers can prohibit wearing these decorations if they determine there is a potential safety hazard to the officer or the public. This legislation provides a way for law enforcement officers to visibly demonstrate and honor their military service during these patriotic holidays, while still giving employers discretion to manage potential safety concerns. The bill will take effect immediately upon becoming law, as determined by the Tennessee General Assembly.
