This bill requires law enforcement agencies in Tennessee to expand their investigations of workplace violence crimes to include an inquiry into workplace bullying. Specifically, when investigating a crime of violence that occurs in a workplace (defined as a factory, plant, office, or other facility where employees work), law enforcement must determine whether bullying was occurring and if the crime was connected to or resulted from bullying. "Bullying" is defined as an act by an employee or former employee that interferes with another employee's work performance or benefits, either by physically harming the employee or their property, or by placing the employee in reasonable fear of such harm. Law enforcement agencies must report their findings about workplace bullying to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), which is then required to compile these reports and submit an annual report by July 1st each year to the state Senate Judiciary Committee and the House committee responsible for criminal justice. The bill will take effect on July 1, 2025, with the goal of providing more comprehensive information about workplace violence and bullying in Tennessee.
