This bill amends Maine's prescription drug labeling law to provide an optional alternative for labeling certain medications used in reproductive healthcare. Specifically, for mifepristone, misoprostol, and their generic equivalents, a prescribing healthcare practitioner can now request that the drug label display the name of their associated health care facility instead of the individual prescriber's name. Currently, prescription drug labels are required to include the prescriber's name, among other details like prescription number, patient name, drug name and strength, and pharmacy information. This change allows for additional privacy and potentially increased safety for healthcare providers who prescribe these specific medications, which are commonly used in medication abortion and other reproductive health treatments. The bill maintains all other existing labeling requirements and gives practitioners the choice of how they want their name represented on the prescription label for these particular drugs.
