This bill requires the Office of Gun Violence Prevention to post gun violence prevention materials on their website for local education providers (including school districts, charter schools, and the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind) to access and distribute to parents, guardians, and legal custodians of K-12 students. At the beginning of each school year, local education providers must access these materials from the office's website and distribute them to parents in either written or electronic format, as well as post or link to the materials on their own websites. Additionally, starting in January 2026 and annually thereafter, the department will be required to include information about these gun violence prevention materials during its annual "SMART ACT" legislative hearing. The bill defines "local education provider" broadly to include various types of educational institutions and aims to increase awareness and provide resources about gun violence prevention to parents of school-aged children. The act will take effect after the standard legislative review period, with a potential referendum option for public approval in November 2026.
