This bill, known as the "Agriculture Grants for Veterans Education and Training Services Act" or the "AG VETS Act", directs the Secretary of Agriculture to establish a competitive grant program to support farming and ranching opportunities for veterans. Eligible entities for these grants include cooperative extension services, land-grant universities, non-land-grant agricultural colleges, Hispanic-serving agricultural colleges, state agriculture departments, nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, or combinations of these. Grant recipients must use the funds to provide comprehensive training and education about farm and ranch business operations, develop educational curricula for veteran farmers and ranchers, offer workshops and field experiences, and support activities that help military veterans develop agricultural knowledge and skills. The bill requires grant recipients to provide matching non-Federal funds equal to the grant amount, and authorizes $5 million in appropriations annually from fiscal years 2026 through 2030. The goal is to help veterans transition into agricultural careers by providing them with critical education, training, and support in farming and ranching business management.
