This bill appropriates $2.2 million in both fiscal years 2026 and 2027 from the general fund to the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency to provide a grant to Community Mediation Minnesota for a statewide housing mediation program. Specifically, the program will provide housing dispute resolution services, increase awareness and access to mediation statewide, focus on eviction prevention, partner with culturally specific resolution programs, offer specialized services for seniors and renters with disabilities, enhance the cultural competency of mediators, integrate mediation with navigation and legal assistance services, develop evaluation tools to improve program effectiveness, and cover necessary administrative expenses. The goal is to create a robust, accessible, and culturally sensitive mediation system that helps prevent housing instability and resolve conflicts between renters and property owners across Minnesota.
