This bill modifies the existing law regarding student union building fees at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The bill removes previous caps on the specific dollar amounts that could be charged per semester and replaces them with a new provision that prevents fee increases of more than 10% from the preceding academic year. The board of regents can now levy a student union fee for financing, constructing, operating, maintaining, and improving a student union building, which now explicitly includes the ability to demolish the existing student union building. Any fee increase must be approved by a majority vote of students enrolled at the university through a general student election.
