This bill amends the public officers law to expand the requirements for filing annual financial disclosure forms. Specifically, the bill adds two new categories of individuals who must now submit these forms: candidates for statewide elected office or legislative positions, and members of regional economic development councils (including volunteer members). These individuals will be required to file an annual statement of financial disclosure by May 15th, detailing financial information for the preceding calendar year. For legislators, legislative employees, and candidates for legislative positions, the form must be filed with the legislative ethics commission, which will then forward the statement to the commission on ethics and lobbying in government. Other covered individuals will file directly with the commission on ethics and lobbying in government. The bill aims to increase transparency by broadening the range of public officials and candidates who must disclose their financial information, thereby providing more insight into potential conflicts of interest and financial relationships of those in or seeking public office.
